SOUL! Fantasitc NYC PBS weekly from November 1, 1972

A couple of years back, my brother and I were talking about music. He had just come across this website:
http://www.thirteen.org/soul/

What a great resource of musical acts from the early 1970s. Great, LIVE performances from some pretty amazing cats. I'm linking one of the videos here, but I cannot recommend enough for you to go to the site and watch all of the ones they have available! Unfortunately, this series has not been compiled onto DVDs (or VHS for that matter!) and apparently, other episodes are floating around out there somewhere, but are very hard to come by. I shared this link with Clifton 'DJ Soft Touch' Weaver, the mastermind of several amazing LA dance clubs, including Funky Sole at the Echo every Saturday! He's been on the look out for additional episodes since then as well. I'll update you if either one of us ever tracks them down! Until then, catch this one and do make sure to invest the time to watch the others and read about what the show was all about!

Please click this link to watch the episode from November 1, 1972:

Old Cars of my past! ...and Scooter!

I grew up as the daughter of a car guy. My dad has been attending the Pomona Car Swap since the 1960s. He's been part of the classic car subculture before the classics were considered classics! He's had cars as old and varied as a 1929 Studebaker Touring car and 1960s & 70s American Muscle cars to numerous custom and sooped up Volkswagens, including several Bug limo's, one of which was his daily driver when I was in Jr. High and that I got picked up from school regularly in! He's had Jag's, dune buggies, Porsches, Woodies...if it was flashy or unusual, even better! So, with that said, I am no stranger to the underside or engine compartment of a car, which is good to be familiar with when owning a classic car. As part of my personal trip down memory lane, here are a few pics of classic cars I have owned and driven.
1968 Mustang California Special http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Special_Mustang
1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karmann_Ghia
1969 Volkswagen Sundial Conversion Camper Bus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_2_%28T2%29#T2
...and finally, my 1980 P200 Vespa scooter.

Well, hope you enjoy old cars as much as I do! Even though I drive a modern car these days, I know one day I'll have my hands on the wheel of a classic again!

Do you remember your first bicycle?!

I remember my first bicycle...it was yellow with a black seat. My dad always had interesting or unusual cars and I spent lots of time with him at car shows and in the garage...not sure how I learned about Ferrari's, but at age 4 or 5, I somehow got my hands on a Ferrari sticker and put it on the seat of my bike. I thought I was the coolest kid and that the sticker made my bike extra fast! ...well, maybe not the fastest! My second bike was one with a Banana seat and it was blue. I loved that one! You see, as a kid alive in the 70's, Banana seat bikes were the top dog! If only we would have known how much those bikes would become collectible...but guess that's the same with lots of toys from that era! We had fun with them while we had them and the memories to last us!

Much to my delight, I got an email today with notification that my photo had been posted! Yay! Take a look here: http://www.mymomisfabulous.com/2010/11/pretty-patterns.html
